ORGANIC COTTON
The cultivation of conventional cotton accounts for more insecticide and pesticide use than any other crop in the world.
Our organic cotton comes from all natural plants that are not genetically modified. It is grown without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and defoliants. We source our organic cotton from Peru, which has banned the use of GMO cotton seeds altogether. This eliminates the risk of contamination that exists in other cotton producing countries.
OUR PLANET
According to the World Wildlife Fund, it can take 2,700 liters of water to produce the conventional cotton needed to make a single t-shirt.
Harmful chemicals make their way into local waterways, polluting the surrounding environment. And conventional cotton producers must develop increasingly toxic pesticides to keep pace with pest adaptation in a never-ending cycle.
Growing and harvesting organic cotton uses 71% less water and 62% less energy than conventional cotton, because farmers grow it in areas with ample rainwater and rely on natural methods to control unwanted pests.
OUR FARMERS
Synthetic agricultural chemicals can contaminate local food and water supplies, which is harmful to the farmers and communities where conventional cotton is grown.
Growing conventional cotton also reduces soil fertility, reducing crop yield over time, which in turn leads to lost income for the farmers.
Farming organic cotton is healthier and more sustainable. Organic cotton communities don’t have to consume polluted water and contaminated food.
Agricultural land that is chemical-free stays fertile longer, benefiting the farmers.
OUR FAMILIES
Conventional cotton fabrics are treated with chemicals that remain in the finished products that your children wear. Many children have skin that is sensitive to these chemicals.
And In some cases they have been linked to adverse health effects.
Free of toxic chemicals, organic cotton is safe for our skin. For people with allergies, sensitive skin, and children this is especially important.
Organic cotton is also not subjected to the rough chemical processing that can weaken its natural fibers. This means organic cotton is softer, stronger, and more durable than cotton from conventional sources.
