Designed in San Francisco. Made in NYC. Always better than basic.

Most kids jeans have the same problem. A stiff waistband, a zip fly, and denim that takes a year of washing before it's comfortable. Firebird's kids jeans are built the other way around. Real organic Japanese denim, cut with a drawstring waist and a relaxed leg, so they look like jeans and feel closer to a favorite pair of sweatpants. Every pair is sewn in small batches in NYC, in sizes 2T through 12-13.

    Soft Denim, Real Jeans

The denim is milled soft and finished without the stiffness that makes a new pair feel like cardboard. It starts comfortable and keeps softening with every wash, so there is no break-in period to get through first.

The waist is a drawstring rather than a button-and-zip fly. Kids can get themselves dressed, the fit adjusts as they grow, and nothing digs in when they sit down. Everything else reads as denim: the wash, the pocket detailing, the relaxed leg that cuffs or wears full length.

    What's in the Collection

The Soft Denim Pants come in dark, gray, and light wash. Two wide pockets, unisex sizing, and a leg that works cuffed or left full length. The Studio Denim Pant is the five-pocket version, cut a little roomier through the leg, in dark blue and black.

Want the outfit handled in one step? The striped sweater and soft denim bundle pairs denim with a knit, and the outfit bundles collection covers more combinations. The kids pants collection has sweatpants and joggers alongside denim.

Priced for Wears, Not for One Season

At $94 to $98 a pair, these cost more than a multipack from a big-box store. The math works differently, though. Organic cotton holds its color and its shape through the wash cycles that wreck cheaper denim, so one pair covers school, weekends, and travel instead of getting benched by month three. When your kid outgrows them, they usually have enough life left to hand down to a sibling or list on Pass It On, our resale platform. We break that math down further in our comparison of kids pants that last versus cheap ones.

    Caring for Organic Cotton Denim

Machine wash cold with like colors on a gentle cycle, no bleach, tumble dry low. Cold water protects the indigo and keeps the cotton from shrinking, and low heat is what keeps the fabric soft over dozens of washes. Line drying extends the life of the denim further. Our guide to caring for organic cotton kids clothes covers stain treatment and storage between sizes.

    Shop Kids Jeans by Size

Toddler sizes run 2T, 3T, 4T, and 5T. Kids sizes run 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13. Check the size chart on each product page before ordering, and size up if your kid is between two sizes: the drawstring waist takes up the slack.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are these actually jeans, or are they jean-style pants?
Real denim. The fabric is 100% organic Japanese cotton woven as denim. What is different is the finish and the closure: the fabric is milled softer than conventional denim, and the waist is a drawstring instead of a button-and-zip fly.

    What size should I order?
Go by height and weight rather than age. Our size chart lists both for every size from 2T through 12-13. Between sizes, order the larger one and adjust the drawstring.

    Are they unisex?
Yes. Every pair here is cut to fit girls and boys, which is also what makes them easy to hand down between siblings. You can browse the same pieces through our girls and boys collections.

    Where are they made?
Cut and sewn in small batches in New York City.

How do I resell or pass them on when my kid outgrows them?
Pass It On is our resale platform. List pieces your kid has outgrown, or shop secondhand Firebird from other families.
